Why we took
the steps
A couple of years ago we heard that many people in Vurpar just
could not see well and could not afford glasses. Kids, we were told,
had to walk to the board to read what was written, simply because
they had vision problems which they could not afford to correct.
Some kids had never been able to read a book, or to do homework
unless some else read to them. We learned that adults had to do
the best they could at work, farming, or at home without being able
to see clearly. Many had no idea what seeing clearly really meant.
It seemed a logical project to undertake, probably much more beneficial
to the village than a new VCR or TV or some other item.
