By the way,
a treat during our stay in Vurpar was the Final Day Program at the
School. Kids dressed up in traditional costumes and presented music,
drama, dance, and poetry. Afterwards, the teachers treated us to
a long, long lunch.
A dozen students
receive $20 a month from the Vurpar Project to pay for room and
board at high schools in Sibiu. Many of them are sponsored by Lions
Club members who went with us to Vurpar in 2000. A few more Lions
have been convinced by Jim Cameron that helping these kids with
their education is a simple, cheap and successful way of rebuilding
Romania and just simply doing the right thing.

So, during
this trip we met with most of the recipient students to explain
what the Project expects from them in exchange for our help.
A nicer bunch of kids you could not find. A more polite respectful
bunch you could not find. It is a joy to help kids who are
showing high grades, excellent attendance and are making their
parents proud. Many
of the parents of the students came to the meeting, too, and
you could tell by the looks in their eyes, their body language
and what they said that they were deeply appreciative of the
help.
(By the
way, if you want to sponsor a student just send
an email to us. 100% percent of the money goes to
the student's education. There is not administrative expense.
We are all volunteers and our friends in Vurpar who monitor
the program are also volunteers.)
